Learn “You Are My Sunshine” Chords and Lyrics
You Are My Sunshine
In this lesson, I will be showing you how to play “You Are My Sunshine” with the chords and lyrics included.
It is a very popular song even today and being played by guitarists worldwide.
It was first recorded by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell in 1939. It has been chosen as one of the state songs of Louisiana because of its association with Jimmy Davis, who was a country music singer and former governor of our beautiful state of Louisiana.
This popular song has been recorded numerous times — so often, in fact, that it is “one of the most commercially played songs in American popular music. You Are My Sunshine, originally recorded for the country music fans, has “virtually lost” its original country music identity, and is played and listened to by both the national flowering of country music and its eventual introduction into the mainstream of the American popular culture.
I will also be showing you the easy way to make the chords in this song which has only 3 chords.
Before we get started
You will need to know the C, F, and G chords. Below are links to my videos showing how to play each of these chords:
For another easy to play song to add to your list of songs, I would recommend Jambalaya by Hank Williams. This song only uses two chords, the C and G7 and is very easy to play.
